Background
I manage the BirdLife International Marine Programme’s work on High Seas seabird bycatch, particularly focusing on improving uptake of seabird bycatch mitigation measures through improved monitoring, control and surveillance in the tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organisations. I also manage projects in Japan and Taiwan to engage with government, researchers, the fishing industry and the tuna supply chain to drive uptake of measures to reduce bycatch of threatened albatross and petrel species. My areas of expertise are bycatch, policy and advocacy, and seabird biology and ecology. Previously I worked on seabird bycatch in southern African and South American fisheries as part of the Albatross Task Force, and prior to that conducted albatross research on South Georgia.
