Background
Charlotte is a marine spatial ecologist with a particular interest in the identification of important areas for safeguarding species and ecosystems in the context of broad-scale conservation and management strategies. Charlotte completed her PhD in marine ecology at the University of Washington in 2012. Since then, her research has focused primarily on the spatial ecology of seabirds and cetaceans and provided new methods for investigating the distribution and movement patterns of highly mobile marine species. Since 2017, Charlotte has served as Chair of the KBA Standards and Appeals Committee, responsible for developing guidelines for identifying and delineating KBAs based on A Global Standard for the Identification of Key Biodiversity Areas. Charlotte also co-leads a team working to develop in-person and online training materials to build capacity in KBA identification and delineation worldwide.
